'Nehru was one of the towering figures of the 20th century. He was an intrepid and eloquent spokesman for the peoples of Asia and Africa fighting for freedom from colonialism. Prime Minister of Independent India for seventeen years and architect of its democratic governance and development plans, he also worked for ushering in a peaceful and co-operative world order. So many-faceted were his achievements that he has been described as not just an individual but a procession of men.

He was a man of thought as well as a man of action, a historian of great distinction and universal vision, and a wizard with words, who wrote and spoke copiously. Combining in himself the wisdom of the East and West, he strove to build a just and humane society within his own country and to carry Mahatma Gandhi's message of tolenrance, non-violence and peaceful co-existence to the world community. He always had something fresh and forceful to say about issues and events which would be of lasting value to individuals and nations.

The present anthology 'Thoughts' brings together some of Jawaharlal Nehru's memorable utterances. It is window to a great mind.'
